Time Mansour - Chapter 95
Only Noblemtl
Episode 95 A Very Small Dream
A delicious smell wafts from the pantry.
“It’s noodles today. Right?”
A quietly talkative monk.
In a soft voice, he speaks to the Bodhisattva who offers food.
“Monks love noodles. We should do this every once in a while.”
The old man seemed familiar with the conversation and answered lightly. He wiped the moisture off his apron with his hand and answered.
A monk and a bodhisattva.
The two people stood there and exchanged a few more friendly words.
As the old monk returned to the kitchen, the chief priest turned his head toward us.
“Ah. Sorry. Come this way.”
I followed the monk’s gesture and went to the food distribution table.
We waited in line, and when it was our turn, we picked up the tongs.
Noodles that are rolled into a ball. Pick them up with tongs and put them in a bowl.
Zucchini, seaweed, kimchi.
Pour the broth over the simple noodles.
As the cotton pad slowly sinks in, the hair is released and spread out.
“Please eat first.”
I picked up the noodles with my chopsticks. I took the noodles out of the soup.
When you put the noodles in your mouth, you can taste the natural, simple taste of the ingredients.
The taste lingers in my mouth.
“The noodles taste good, don’t they?”
“Yes. It’s delicious.”
Seongtae and I nodded together at the monk’s question.
It wasn’t an empty promise. It was surprisingly to my taste. I wonder how they made the broth without using anchovies. I moved my chopsticks, wondering inwardly.
In the silence, only the slurping sound could be heard. The chewy noodles were being sucked in.
It’s delicious. It’s delicious. Seongtae and I repeated the same words as we scooped up all the noodles and drank the soup in the bowl until the very end.
My empty heart is filled with warmth. Warm soup warms my insides.
“I ate well.”
We emptied our bowls before the monk. Seongtae put his chopsticks down on the table and waited quietly. Normally, he would have gotten up quickly and held the holy fire. But in front of the monk, Seongtae’s quiet appearance was completely unfamiliar.
I waited for the monk to finish eating, and when I saw him put down his chopsticks, I was about to get up from my seat.
suddenly.
The monk bows his head slightly towards us.
“I just wanted to say thank you again.”
“Huh? Oh! No. We didn’t do anything.”
“It really helped me a lot. I was already worried about not having enough money to send to undernourished children.”
“Huh? You said the donations weren’t enough?”
“Yes. I guess it’s a difficult time for everyone.”
Seongtae and I looked at the monk with surprised expressions.
Wolgye Temple is a fairly large temple.
Although there are no subordinate offices and the site is rather small.
When compared in terms of number of Buddhists or finances, the story was different.
Even though it is on the outskirts of Seoul, it is still one of the few easily accessible temples within Seoul.
If Wolgye Temple is having trouble receiving regular donations, how bad must the economy be?
A bitter smile appears on my face without me knowing it.
“Then isn’t the real problem winter? That’s when the money really starts to come in…”
“Yes. But even if there are hard times, won’t good days come?”
After the monk answered, he stood up from his seat, holding the bowl.
Seongtae and I follow the monk out of the offering room.
Before going back home like that.
Put your hands together and greet the monk.
“We should go now.”
“Yes, thank you very much.
I repeat the words of gratitude again. The sincerity of the abbot reaches us.
First, the back of the monk who is leaving. I see his gray robes swaying from side to side.
Suddenly.
I thought, why don’t we create a sponsorship platform?
Wouldn’t it be more meaningful if we not only held charity performances, but also collected donations and made donations?
So I stopped walking and was lost in thought for a moment.
Bam.
Seongtae lightly tapped my shoulder.
“What are you thinking about?”
“I was thinking about making an app.”
“What app?”
“Something like a sponsorship platform.”
The moment when you mutter something into thin air.
at that time.
Ding. Ding. The bell rang.
The conversation paused for a moment.
As the bell sound left a lingering impression, it disappeared.
“You’re not trying to make a profit from sponsorship, are you?”
Seongtae looks at me with his eyes narrowed.
It doesn’t seem sincere. It seems like he’s just joking.
“I hadn’t thought of that, but that’s a good idea. I’ll keep that in mind.”
I also took it as a joke naturally.
“But doesn’t it cost a lot of money to maintain the app? Is that possible without taking a commission?”
“Even if I do, it’s just labor costs. Well, I can manage that myself. The rest is just server costs anyway.”
That’s not a huge expense. Well, it would take a lot of time to run it alone. After all, all I have is time.
I’ll have to think about it. It’s hard to develop an app, but there’s nothing I can’t do if I try.
Thinking like that, I pass the temple. Turning my back to the sound of the moktak, I pass through the main gate and a white-haired rock mountain comes into view in the distance.
“By the way. When did we get so old?”
Seongtae looks at the rock mountain with a hazy look in his eyes.
A tall peak visible from anywhere in the neighborhood.
Because it existed before I was born.
From the top of the mountain, he must have watched over all of our childhood.
To Seongtae, who was looking at the mountain peak with eyes that were lost in memories.
“It’s not us who are old. It’s you.”
It revealed the cruel reality.
“Shit.”
“I don’t age. I was born that way.”
“Say something like, ‘Get some wrinkles around your eyes.’”
We still share the jokes we told as children.
As we walked and talked so loudly, we arrived at the parking lot before we knew it.
Seongtae pulls the car door and looks at me.
“Are you going straight home?”
“Uh. I’m busy these days.”
“I’m really busy. Anyway, I understand. See you later.”
bang.
The car door closed and the engine noise was heard from the car.
Without even watching Seongtae take the car out, he walked straight to the nearest subway station.
hurry.
I have to go home quickly.
There was so much to do right now.
**
The monitor lights up.
I’ve been analyzing the code in my sister’s room for days, but I just can’t get the hang of it.
‘What the hell is the problem?’
The symptoms do not occur every time, but are implemented intermittently.
Symptoms are random. This is the most troublesome case.
Because the errors are inconsistent, we are having trouble finding the cause of the data bottleneck.
I guess I’ll have to keep looking though.
In case the cause could not be found within the period, a second-best solution was needed.
so.
‘Let’s start from scratch with a new program.’
We plan to re-optimize performance so that it can withstand sudden spikes in traffic due to data being a bottleneck.
This is a treatment that uses expedient methods to only prevent symptoms from appearing without treating the cause.
If we completely rip and replace the parts related to the database and reduce the traffic itself, errors will not occur at all.
It’s a kind of insurance. If we can’t even solve the performance test, we have to meet the opening date even by using such an ignorant method.
I decided to take a fresh look at the code to make sure it could handle the massive traffic, and put my hands on the keyboard.
Eliminate any code that is difficult to follow and rewrite the program with simpler code.
We’ve carefully inserted the index, making it possible to search data quickly.
Knock knock. Knock knock.
The sound of a keyboard begins to resonate in a quiet room.
With each keystroke, a light flashes on the keyboard.
Time passed by so relentlessly.
At some point.
Because I coded too hard.
“Wow. What’s so complicated about this?”
I couldn’t help but feel annoyed.
This is a perfectly normal reaction.
It wasn’t an easy task to begin with. It wasn’t a size that could be done alone.
To exaggerate a little, it’s no different from making an app by yourself.
And it’s not a small-sized app, it’s a commercial app for a large company.
I really thought that if I continued like this, I might be able to create other commercial apps on my own.
Suddenly.
“Ah. While we’re at it, maybe we should try making a sponsorship platform or something.”
I remembered what I had said to Seongtae at the temple earlier.
therefore.
Because I didn’t want to do the work, I made excuses.
Let’s turn away from reality for a moment.
**
recent.
I’ve been getting calls from this manager often.
I kept putting it off using the excuse of being busy.
no.
It’s not an excuse. I was really busy.
Anyway, that’s why I came to Seoul for a trip after a long time.
As soon as this manager found me.
“Hey, Youngjun!”
He waves his hand and greets me warmly.
“Director. Are you really bored these days?”
“Yes. A lot. I have nothing to do after becoming unemployed.”
“What about the company? Are you not going at all? Isn’t there still time left for the handover period?”
“The representative is my older brother.”
That would be nice. The director smiles and makes a V sign at my words.
“Oh. Right. Sir. Didn’t you say you were going on a trip?”
“I don’t have anyone to go with. Why? Do you want to go with me?”
This manager is behaving in a rude manner.
I wonder if he’s really teasing me.
Who am I being so busy with right now?
“I want to do that too. But because of my boss, I’m so busy these days.”
I said it with an accent on the word “oppa” on purpose.
“What about you, oppa? Even others can’t do that.”
He shakes his head. Just now, the CEO said he was my brother. He keeps saying he was my brother and then he wasn’t. I don’t know which beat to follow.
As I looked at him with a dumbfounded expression, Director Lee smiled shamelessly.
“But Youngjun, you still haven’t figured it out? This is the first time I’ve seen Youngjun so incapable of solving something. You used to be able to solve everything with a click.”
“Yes, that’s right.”
I sighed. The quantity was huge, and there was a lot I didn’t know.
Because I couldn’t find the cause, I had to use an ignorant method and it was more difficult.
“Go quickly. It’s been a while since I’ve been out.”
Again. Again. This director walks with the sound of his shoes. Come to think of it, it’s the first time I’ve seen him wearing shoes. Maybe it’s because it’s been a while since he’s been out. He looks really excited.
It bounces up and down every time I walk.
So, I started walking in time with the sound of the director’s shoes.
Suddenly from the side.
“Tiring. Tiring. Tiring. Tiring.”
A mechanical melody sounded.
A doll grabbing machine. The manager stopped in front of it as he was walking.
The sound of footsteps disappears.
After thinking for a moment in front of the machine, he turns his head and looks at me.
I think you’re going to ask a question.
“I haven’t tried it.”
I answered your question before you asked it.
“Hello? I’ve played claw machines before. Do you think I’m some kind of real rich girl?”
I think there was some misunderstanding.
That’s not what I meant.
At the sight of this director getting so worked up.
“No… I said I haven’t done it.”
I was embarrassed without realizing it.
And it seems that the same goes for this director.
“You’ve never played a claw machine before? Ever?”
“yes.”
“why?”
Every time I hear this question.
“Just like that.”
The answer was always the same.
I wonder if there’s a reason. It just happened as I lived.
As expected from Youngjun. Director Lee bursts into laughter at my answer.
After laughing like that for a while.
“Then try it today. Do you have any coins?”
He grabs my collar and smiles brightly like a child.
After he quit the company, this director’s expression brightened up a lot.
This too.
Well, it was perfectly normal.
