Villain’s Programming - Chapter 272

Episode 272: The Apple’s Owner
Jobs frowned as he looked at the ‘shareholder status’ his secretary had brought him.
‘Dojun acquired 3% of the stock?’
3% of shares were not a small amount. If this much stock had been traded, it would have caused a commotion in the market, but the stock market was quiet.
‘Big shot? Or maybe you dealt with people who left Apple.’
It was quite common for stocks to be traded separately by adding a few percent to the market price, but it was rare for it to be done so quietly.
‘It looks like Dojun has a pretty capable person.’
Jobs closed the report.
‘The plan to influence Apple by buying stock was sound, but 3% was out of the question.’
Looking at the report, it looks like they spent about 10 trillion won buying stocks.
‘Even if you’re Dojun, you probably don’t have any more money.’
Jobs asked his chief of staff.
“Are all the new people here?”
“Yes. Everyone is waiting for you in the conference room.”
“egg plant.”
Jobs struggled to get up. As each day passed, his body grew heavier. As it did, his obsession with ‘eternal life’ grew.
‘I must start this project before I die. No one can stop it until it is completed.’
Jobs gritted his teeth and followed his secretary. After a while, Jobs entered the conference room.
There were about 30 people sitting in the conference room. They all stood up when Jobs entered.
Jobs spoke at the forefront.
“It’s nice to meet you. Welcome to the Apple family.”
Jobs looked at the people. They all looked nervous.
‘Well, it can’t be helped since the company owner suddenly changed.’
Usually, when a company owner changes, the first thing they do is ‘restructuring’. Naturally, they couldn’t help but be nervous.
‘I’ve gathered everyone listed in the email: neuroscientists, cognitive psychologists, DNA experts, etc.’
Jobs bought the companies they were in to live ‘forever’. He couldn’t do any secret negotiations because he didn’t have time. He bought the companies at the price they asked for.
Of course, there was internal opposition, but Jobs kicked them all out of the company.
‘This is my last project. I won’t let anyone interfere!’
Jobs greeted them one by one, shaking their hands. Soon, only one person remained.
Jobs said, looking at the employee badge around his neck.
“Jeremy Rogers, nice to meet you. What field do you work in?”
“It’s the DNA field.”
“DNA. That’s great. I look forward to working with you in the future.”

Dojun said to Kim Jaehwan.
“Thank you for your hard work.”
Kim Jae-hwan shook his head.
“No, I’m sorry I only got 3%.”
“No. It’s really beyond my expectations to borrow money and secure this much stock in such a short period of time.”
Do-jun’s words were true. Kim Jae-hwan took out a loan using Do-jun’s shares and stocks as collateral, and even bought Apple stocks with the loan money.
He didn’t buy Apple stocks on the market, but through his connections. What would normally take a month for a normal person, Kim Jae-hwan did in just two weeks.
‘You said you solved it through connections while attending New York University? Kim Jae-hwan’s ability is also amazing, and I hate to admit it, but his connections are really the best.’
Dojun also had connections at the university. But there was no one among them who could solve the current problem.
‘I personally buy Apple stocks, so I can’t ask other people to do it for me.’
If it was a business proposition, I could have subtly encouraged others to ‘invest’, but this was purely a personal matter.
Of course, you will never lose money if you invest in Apple, but that was in a previous life. Honestly, Dojun didn’t know what would happen in the future.
“Thank you. I will check and get back to you to see if I can lend you more.”
“yes.”
As Kim Jae-hwan left the hotel room, Do-jun sighed.
‘I really don’t have time now… … .’
Dorothy lasted longer than expected because Dojun spared no expense in providing her with all the treatment he could.
‘A week at the earliest, this week at the latest is the limit.’
Dojun clenched his fists. Sally practically lived in the hospital. Although she only went into the intensive care unit for a short time a day, Sally protected ‘Dorothy’ even outside the intensive care unit.
It was the same with ‘Robert’. The two took turns guarding the front of the sickroom.
‘I need more money. Is there really no way?’
It was then that the cell phone rang.
‘Huh? It’s Larry, right?’
Dojun answered the phone right away.
“Larry!”
– Dojun! How have you been?
“Good. How’s Larry?”
– Me? I was busy because of Dojun. Because of the DeepMind acquisition.
“Ah! Did the takeover go well?”
– Oh! Everything went well. I really liked it. How did you find out about this company?
Do-jun learned about DeepMind thanks to AlphaGo, which competed against the Lee Chang-ho team in his previous life. This was because the company that created AlphaGo was DeepMind.
“Well, let’s keep it as a secret that can’t be told.”
– Ha. If only I could, I’d really like to look inside your head.
“Please bear with this.”
– Okay, I’ll take that. But tell me what business you’re in now. I really need to hear that.
Dojun tilted his head and asked.
“Business?”
– Oh, is this really going to happen? Between you and me? Didn’t you take out a loan using your Google shares as collateral a while ago?
“ah!”
Only then did Dojun seem to realize what had happened.
‘You borrowed money using Google shares as collateral, so the bank must have contacted you.
“Are you curious where I spent the money? I just spent it on personal things.”
– Oh, it’s a personal matter? Are you personally trying to pioneer space? Please, let me invest in that business.
Dojun was embarrassed.
“Business? No. I needed the money because I had a company I wanted to invest in personally.”
– Investment? No, what kind of company were you investing in that you needed that much money for? I found out that you borrowed money using not only our company’s shares but also Amazon shares as collateral.
Dojun was dumbfounded.
‘Bank, you little bastards. Why are your mouths so small?’
Dojun just wanted to say ‘Apple’, but ‘Apple’ and ‘Google’ were competitors in the mobile operating system market.
Dojun couldn’t bring himself to tell Larry Page that he was investing in Apple.
“Just. There’s a place I want to invest for personal reasons. More than for profit, it’s for my personal reasons.”
Dojun told almost the truth.
– Dojun, you’re making this investment because of your personal circumstances. Please include Google as well.
Even though Dojun said no, Larry persistently asked. Dojun sighed.
‘Eight. Let’s just be honest. If you say Apple, they’ll fall out. Do you think Google is going to invest in Apple?’
Dojun took a deep breath and said.
“Larry, since you say it like that, I’ll be honest with you.”
– Okay! Thanks. Where is that?
“It’s an apple.”
For a moment, there was silence on the receiver.
– What? Apple? You’re not the Apple I’m thinking of, are you? Are you the company that releases new Apple products?
“No. It’s the Apple you think it is. It’s Google’s competitor Apple.”
– Yeah.
Dojun sighed.
‘You must be feeling complicated. You’re investing in Apple, your competitor, the person who brought you Android. You might feel betrayed. Wait, maybe they’ll kick me out of the Google board?’
When Dojun decided to risk everything, Larry said.
– Dojun, I’ve thought about you and worried about you countless times. Because what you’ve brought to Google is so great. YouTube, Android, and even DeepMind. If it weren’t for you, Google wouldn’t be as big as it is now.
Dojun nodded. Google has certainly grown faster than in his previous life.
– I don’t think you would do anything detrimental to Google. You probably have your own reasons, as you said.
“Thank you for trusting me, Larry.”
– Let me ask you one question. Be honest. Your personal investment. Is it purely personal? Is it a losing investment?
Dojun was silent for a moment and then answered.
“No. It will be profitable.”
– how much?
“Maybe double in a year.”
Larry sighed.
– Oh, so that means your competitor will be doing incredibly well within a year?
“Maybe. But Google will do just as well.
– Of course. But if you know where to invest twice as much and you just sit back and do nothing, you’re not qualified to lead the company.
“Larry… No way?”
– Let’s create an investment company together. Since it’s a competitor, it would be a problem if we invested as individuals, but if we create an investment group like Vanguard Group, it wouldn’t be a problem. We’re not investing in Apple, we’re just investing in an investment company.
Dojun’s eyes grew wide.
‘Wait a minute, an investment group? That’s it!’
Larry Page was suggesting an unexpected solution. Do-jun hung up the phone after a deep conversation with Larry about the ‘investment group’.
‘If there are more investors in an investment group, everything will be solved. But would anyone invest in such an investment group? A company that has no performance yet?’
* * *
Dojun’s worries were useless ‘worries’.
– I’ll invest in that investment group too! Money? Don’t worry. They’re raking in the money because of AWS. So don’t even think about investing without Amazon!
As soon as I hung up the phone with Larry, Jeff Bezos called.
Next was ‘Bill Gates’. After hearing Do-jun’s story, ‘Bill Gates’ said in disbelief.
– Are you trying to make an investment that will definitely double your profits in a year without telling me? Is that all there is to our relationship?
Do-jun hurriedly told Kim Jae-hwan to create an investment group and consult with investment experts from Google, Amazon, and Microsoft.
‘I never thought they would invest in an investment company with no track record. I think the money problem has been solved to some extent.’
Of course, it was short of the target amount. However, it seemed like it would be possible to secure at least a 6-7% stake.
‘We might be able to resolve the shortfall by joining forces with other shareholders. With this level of stake, we can talk to them on equal terms to some extent.’
What shareholders were most sensitive about was the stock price going down.
‘If Apple is investigated for hacking, and we have to join forces, of course we will do it.’
Dojun thought that everything was now resolved. Moreover, luck was on his side.
[Apple acquires brain research company.]
[Apple acquires body tissue testing equipment company.]
[Jobs acquired the company at 50% to 100% more expensive than the fair value? Why?]
[Apple’s stock price continues to fall due to acquisition of a company unrelated to IT.]
[Steve Jobs forces all employees who oppose the company’s acquisition to resign.]
Apple’s stock price was falling every day. Do-jun tilted his head after reading the article.
‘Why did Jobs acquire those companies? This never happened in his past life? Did he change history again?’
I don’t know why, but this was definitely a stroke of luck.
‘Oh, that’s too bad. If only I had more money. I could have acquired more stocks than I thought.’
Do-jun was thinking about that when his cell phone rang. Do-jun was surprised when he saw the name printed on the screen.
“Huh? Crown Prince Mansour?”
Dojun blinked.
‘Why did you contact me? You didn’t hear about investment information, did you?’
Mansour was different from Larry and Jeff. He was someone who wanted to invest more than anyone else.
‘Why didn’t I think of the Crown Prince?’
Dojun answered the phone cautiously.
“Assalamalakum, Your Highness. Good morning.”
Mansour answered in a heavy voice.
– I want to say hello, but I feel a little uneasy.
“What do you mean?”
– Do-jun, I think of you as my real brother. So answer me honestly. I heard you’re forming an investment group. Without me. Right?
Dojun swallowed dryly. He thought about how to respond.
“Your Highness, that is true, but this time I am not investing with confidence… … .”
– Sure? I don’t need that. It’s your job. So, isn’t it natural for me to invest?
Do-jun, speechless, looked at the monitor with a frustrated heart. Do-jun opened his eyes wide. There he saw an article related to ‘Apple’.
“Your Highness, let me be honest with you. I intend to invest in Apple.”
– Apple?
“Yes. It’s for personal reasons. But as you can see from the article, Apple is having problems these days.”
– I heard that too. Rumor has it that Jobs is buying up medical professionals and equipment companies in a last-ditch effort to fix himself. Well, what good is money when you’re dead? I can understand that.
Dojun tilted his head.
‘So Jobs acquired those companies?’
Although it seemed like there was another reason, Dojun agreed with Mansour’s idea for the time being.
“I think so too. That’s why I didn’t contact you. I thought it was a failed investment. I’m not sure about this one either.”
In fact, Dojun was convinced. The stock price had fallen compared to his previous life. People were trying to sell each other their Apple stocks. If they bought them now, they would make a lot of money.
– And yet you want to invest in Apple? And your work is my work. Your personal work is my work.
“ah!”
Dojun was actually a little touched.
– So I’ll invest too. Google invested 5 trillion, right? I’ll invest 10 trillion.
Dojun opened his mouth wide.
“10 trillion?”
Even for Mansour, 10 trillion was not an amount that could be easily paid.
‘Wait a minute, if 10 trillion more comes in… considering the current Apple stock price, wouldn’t it be possible to buy up to 10%?’
There’s a lot you can do with just 10% of the stock.
Dojun swallowed dry saliva and asked.
“Are you sure you’re okay?”
Mansour said with a smile.
– Are you okay? I have a feeling this will be the greatest investment return of my life.
* * *
A few days later, a secret deal was made in San Francisco, USA.
The banquet hall was attended by Crown Prince Mansour, Larry Page, Jeff Bezos, and Bill Gates.
Today was the launch day of the ‘investment group’ they created.
Although a great crowd gathered, not a single reporter was seen. This was because Do-jun kept it a secret.
Larry Page came to Dojun with champagne and asked,
“The stock market must be going crazy by now.”
Dojun took a sip of champagne and answered.
“Yes. Because Apple’s largest shareholder has changed.”
“There’s probably going to be chaos soon. When people find out we bought it, the stock price will skyrocket.”
As Apple’s stock price fell, Dojun bought Apple stocks with Kim Jaehwan and investment experts from Google, Amazon, and Microsoft. Some bought stocks on the market, and others negotiated with investment firms that had Apple stocks to buy stocks.
The purchase date for those stocks was today.
“Dojun, there are two things I’m curious about.”
Dojun asked with a smile.
“You’re wondering what my personal reasons were for buying an Apple?”
“One is true.”
“Then what’s the other one?”
“This is the name of the investment group. Is there a reason it is called VENUS GROUP?”
There was. That too had a huge meaning.
“As you know, VENUS means Venus. But in Korea, Venus is called ‘Satbyeol’.”
“Lucifer?”
“Yes. Because it is the star that shines at dawn. And its name is very special to me.”
“I see. That clears up one of my questions. Now, can you tell me the other one, the personal reason you bought an Apple?”
Everyone looked at Dojun at Larry’s words. This was what everyone was curious about.
Dojun answered while holding the champagne.
“I’ll tell you after I meet with Jobs. I have an appointment this afternoon.”
As soon as Do-jun finished dinner, he went straight to Apple headquarters. As soon as Jobs’ secretary saw Do-jun, he immediately guided him to Jobs’ room.
As I entered the room, I saw Jobs. He was standing, and he looked thinner than the last time I saw him.
There was something different though. The eyes were shining more intensely.
Dojun looked at him and said.
“Jobs.”
“Dojun.”
Two people approached and shook hands.
And so the final showdown between Dojun and Jobs began.
