Episode 316: Oh Seong’s Worries
Dojun thought about why ‘All Together Marvel’ was popular in his past life.
‘The game was fun, basically. But no matter how fun a game is, it’s useless if users don’t know about it. In this regard, Marvel’s strategy was excellent.’
Originally, game companies didn’t do much CF advertising. They thought it cost a lot of money and wasn’t very effective.
But the one that broke that mold was ‘Marvel Marvel’.
‘We made a game CF that broke the mold and made many ordinary people play games. The representative game is Seven Master.’
Seven Masters was a typical mobile RPG, but its advertising was not typical.
‘Instead of using famous celebrities for the CF, we used Marvel’s own developers as models. The commercial was simple. It was just a young man with a mustache suddenly shouting ‘Seven Master’ on a bus, in an elevator, and in a coffee shop. It was so fresh and fun.’
Ultimately, Seven Masters was a huge success. But there was a game that was even more successful: Marvel Together.
While the Seven Masters CF was popular mainly among gamers, the entire nation knew about the Marvel CF. Not only that, the entire nation sang along to the CF song.
‘The commercial was simple. It was just people who looked like regular people singing ‘Let’s do Marvel together, together’ over and over again. But the song was incredibly addictive.’
Thanks to the song that gets stuck in your mouth after just one listen, both children and adults alike hummed along to ‘Everybody Marvel’.
Naturally, some of them started playing games, and that’s how ‘All Marvel’ began to create a box office success story.
Dojun clenched his fist.
‘This is it! China may have more content, but they can’t copy Korean commercials or songs.’
‘Altogether Marble’ had not yet entered the Korean market. I thought that if we launched ‘Altogether Marble’ and took the lead with CFs, we could succeed.
‘And I have a secret weapon. It’s BTIS. Wouldn’t it be amazing if BTIS sang Marvel’s CF song together?’
Although it is unknown now, as BTIS gained popularity, ‘Let’s Marvel Together’ was sure to gain popularity as well. However, there were some concerns.
‘It may be popular for a while, but in the end, it can’t compete with the amount of content. There’s no way to fix this. It’s a problem that will require a lot of time and effort from developers.’
Dojun wondered if there was a way to solve this. But no solution came to mind.
As I was walking, I came into view of Tancheon. I was close to my house. But then my cell phone rang.
Do-jun’s eyes opened wide. The person who called was Chairman Oh Geon-ju.
Dojun answered the phone right away.
“Mr. Chairman.”
* * *
“Cough, cough.”
When Chairman Oh Geon-ju started coughing and staggered, his chief secretary ran over and supported him.
“Mr. Chairman, are you feeling better?”
“Oh, it’s okay. Don’t worry.”
Chairman Oh Geon-ju left the bathroom after saying those words. Outside the bathroom, executives from the Osung Group and Oh Geon-ju’s three siblings were waiting.
“What are you doing here? Everyone go to work!”
At those words, Taeyeon Oh came over and linked arms with Gunju Oh and said.
“I want to go with Dad! Will you give me a ride?”
“Okay. Take your car and go. I have an appointment.”
“Cheese.”
Oh Geon-ju walked down the hallway past Tae-yeon. As he passed the main gate, he saw a large number of Oh Sung Group executives and employees standing in line.
In front of the main gate, Chairman Oh Gun-joo’s Rolls-Royce was parked. When Chairman Oh Gun-joo drove off in that car, all the executives and employees there bowed their heads.
Chairman Oh Geon-ju looked at the rearview mirror. His two sons also bowed their heads, but there was only one person who did not bow. It was Taeyeon.
Taeyeon was jumping around and waving her hands. Oh Geon-ju smiled at her.
“Look at that girl running around like that. How old is she? She’s still a kid, a kid.”
The chief executioner sitting next to Oh Geon-ju answered.
“Miss Taeyeon only shows this kind of behavior in front of the chairman. I heard that she is nicknamed the Iron-Blooded Witch at work.”
“Iron-blooded witch? Who!”
As Oh Geon-ju frowned, the chief executioner answered.
“I don’t mean it in a bad way. They say she got that nickname because she tries to do everything perfectly. They say she pursues perfection without any blood or tears when it comes to her work.”
At those words, Oh Geon-ju raised the corners of his lips and said.
“Well, Taeyeon is very meticulous. I didn’t know she would be that meticulous in her work, though.”
“Seeing that, the saying that blood is thicker than water came to mind.”
“Well, is it really because of the blood?”
Oh Geon-ju didn’t think that was the case. It was because next to Taeyeon, there was someone who wanted Taeyeon’s recognition more than anyone else.
‘The reason Taeyeon changed so much is because of Hwang Do-jun.’
Ogunju was very happy about the change, but at the same time he felt bitter.
“Ha. I should have done it before I got married.”
Kim Jun-woo, the chief of staff, said to Oh Geon-ju.
“Huh? What do you want me to cover?”
“Ah, ah. It’s nothing. Oh, we’re almost home. You, come up for a bit.”
“yes.”
The car stopped and Oh Geon-ju went into the study. Kim Jun-woo, the chief of staff, also came in.
Oh Geon-ju sighed as he looked at Director Kim.
“You’re old too. You don’t have black hair anymore. Should I dye it?”
“I like things natural, Chairman.”
“It’s natural… Well, how can a person turn back time? I would do the same, Director Kim.”
“Yes, Chairman.”
“I’ve been having that thought a lot lately. It’s like if I fall asleep I won’t be able to wake up.”
Director Kim looked surprised at Oh Geon-ju’s words.
“What do you mean, Chairman? That won’t happen.”
“I want to do that too. But at this age, I guess I can see the future a little bit? I feel like I don’t have much time left.”
“Chairman, in that case, go to the hospital immediately… … .”
Oh Geon-ju said, waving his hand.
“Okay. The reason I called you over was because I wanted to ask you something.”
“Please speak, Chairman.”
“Taeyeon, you seem to be having a hard time these days. Do you know why? When I ask her, she just says she’s okay.”
Director Kim shook his head.
“I don’t know about that. Let’s find out and solve your problem, young lady.”
Oh Geon-ju, who had been thinking for a moment, shook his head.
“No. Taeyeon will definitely hate it if you move. Hmm, what should I do?”
While Oh Geon-ju was thinking, Director Kim spoke quietly.
“Chairman, if it’s a young lady problem, how about calling CEO Hwang Do-jun?”
“Representative Hwang?”
Oh Geon-ju made an awkward expression.
“That’s exactly right. Director Kim, did you hear me talking to CEO Hwang Do-jun a little while ago?”
Ogunju, who was getting older, had poor hearing these days. So he turned up the volume on his cell phone a lot, and the person next to him could hear the entire conversation.
“…yes.”
“Ha. That’s what’s worrying me. Didn’t Representative Hwang ask me to meet him because of my family’s business? He even said we should meet in person to talk about it.”
“yes.”
“Do you know what that means? I’ve known CEO Hwang for a long time, and for him to say something like this means that it’s not an ordinary thing. To be honest, that’s why I’m afraid to ask CEO Hwang to do Taeyeon’s work. I’m afraid that if I contact him, he’ll hear about that ‘work’.”
Director Kim remained silent at Oh Geon-ju’s words. He knew that this was not his problem, but that Oh Geon-ju had to make the decision.
Oh Geon-ju thought for a while and then said.
“I spoke useless words.”
“No, Mr. Chairman.”
“This is not something that can be avoided, Director Kim.”
“yes.”
“Contact Representative Hwang.”
* * *
Do-jun was in an awkward position after hanging up the phone with Chairman Oh Geon-ju.
“No, do you want to meet Taeyeon and help her solve her problems?”
In fact, Do-jun expected Chairman Oh Geon-ju to call to make an appointment. It was because Do-jun had asked to meet him last time because of a ‘family’ issue.
But Chairman Oh Geon-ju kept putting it off day after day and this time he asked to meet Taeyeon.
‘Have you noticed anything?’
I thought that might be the case. It was because there were rumors going around that in some areas, Osung had more and faster information than the National Intelligence Service.
‘Do you even know about the National Intelligence Service corruption files? Then there’s no point in talking about it.’
Dojun scratched the back of his head.
“Eight. Since I have to meet Taeyeon anyway, I guess I’ll go anyway.”
Dojun made an appointment with Taeyeon right away and went to where Taeyeon worked the next day.
‘Hmm. There are more people here than last time I came?’
Taeyeon’s company occupied two entire floors of a building in Gangnam.
Dojun arrived a little earlier than the appointed time, carefully opened the door and went in.
“No, is this a design? What would you say if you showed this to a client? It has no features, no features! What if they can’t tell the difference when they’re idols!”
A woman’s voice rang out from the office. Do-jun looked over in surprise and saw Tae-yeon scolding a man.
“I’m sorry. I’ll draw it again.”
As the man bowed his head, Taeyeon sighed and answered.
“Do you know what the problem is?”
When the man couldn’t answer, Taeyeon sighed and started explaining one by one.
It was completely different from the angry expression from earlier. She told me to fix it, explaining it in detail, as if she really wanted the man to grow.
‘Wow, you’ve really become a leader.’
After a while, the man said thank you and returned to his seat. Taeyeon returned to her seat.
Taeyeon looked at her watch after a while and tilted her head. Then she looked at the door and opened her eyes wide.
“Brother!”
Taeyeon shouted with a completely different expression and voice than when she shouted just a moment ago.
The man who had been scolded a moment ago blinked and looked at Taeyeon and Dojun.
“When did you come!”
When Taeyeon ran over quickly and spoke in a snorting voice, the man who had been getting scolded made a blank expression as if he was experiencing cognitive dissonance.
“just now.”
“Then come right away. Why… … .”
In an instant, Taeyeon’s expression changed.
“By any chance, did you see it?”
“No. I didn’t see it.”
“What didn’t you see?”
“all.”
Taeyeon bowed her head deeply.
“You’ve seen it all.”
Dojun stroked Taeyeon’s head.
“I’ve seen it. I’ve seen you become a great leader.”
At those words, Taeyeon’s stiff expression softened.
“After becoming a married man, he became even more talkative.”
That’s when Taeyeon’s company people started gossiping.
“Isn’t that CEO Hwang Do-jun?”
“Yeah, I’m sure. I saw it on YouTube.”
“They say he’s the richest man in our country? Is that true?”
“That’s true, I heard you had a connection with the CEO. Is that true?”
Taeyeon took Dojun to the conference room with a look of “Oh no.”
In the conference room, Dojun asked Taeyeon if she was having a hard time these days.
“Pfft. Brother, what did you hear from Dad?”
“huh?”
“My dad asked me something similar a while ago. Judging from your expression, I guess you’re right. Oh, it’s nothing. I just feel like things are a bit stagnant these days.”
Oh Tae-yeon’s company grew into a large company with annual sales of nearly 50 billion won. Of course, this sales were possible thanks to the help of Do-jun and the help of the Oh Sung Group, but the ability to make that money was real.
But recently, it hasn’t grown any further than that. Emoticons and animations alone have their limitations. Even if we wanted to expand further, there were no areas.
Dojun thought deeply after hearing Taeyeon’s explanation.
‘I think there might be a way… … .’
When Dojun made a serious expression, Taeyeon stood up and spoke.
“Brother, this is something I have to take care of. Stop worrying and get up. Let’s go eat.”
“rice?”
“Yeah. I found a place that makes really good budaejjigae.”
As he watched Taeyeon keep licking her lips while talking about budaejjigae, Dojun realized that Taeyeon had truly become a member of society.
“Okay. If it doesn’t taste good, I’ll tell the chairman that you want to get married?”
“What? Hey! Hwang Do-jun!”
When Taeyeon shouted, Dojun ran out of the conference room.
Dojun quickly walked towards the main gate. But then something caught his eye.
A little while ago, a tall character was drawn on the monitor of the confused man. But the character looked familiar.
Dojun stopped and stared blankly at the character.
Taeyeon ran over and grabbed Dojun by the collar.
“No, it’s no fun when someone who was running away stays still like this. Why are you looking at me like that?”
Dojun said, pointing at the monitor.
“What is this?”
“Ah. This? They’re a boy group called BTIS that just debuted, and their agency asked me to draw them as 3-headed characters. I guess they’re going to use it for promotional purposes.”
At that moment, Dojun’s eyes widened.
‘This is it! Making BTIS into a 3-headed game character.’
Even after their debut, BTIS was more popular overseas than in Korea for a long time.
‘If we make it into a game character, wouldn’t BTIS also become popular in Korea when it first debuts?’
That wasn’t all. Dojun thought of making a Marvel character with 3 heads and bodies using all of our country’s celebrities.
The fandom of our country’s idols is huge. It was obvious that they would become extremely popular as soon as they were released.
‘In Korea, Korean idols, in China, Chinese idols. We’re making popular people from each country into characters. This can make up for the lack of content compared to ‘Altogether Marble’!’
However, there was a problem. It took a lot of time from signing a contract with an idol agency to starting work.
‘Wait a minute, there was a way to solve this in my past life, right? It was a company that specialized in outsourcing game graphics.’
Nowadays, game graphic outsourcing is done by individuals, but in a few years, a company that takes on professional graphic outsourcing will appear and become very successful.
‘What if Taeyeon’s company takes charge of this?’
Taeyeon was the youngest daughter of Oh Seong. If Taeyeon rushed to sign a contract, it would be difficult for most agencies to refuse.
“Taeyeon, you… don’t you want to try expanding your company?”
Taeyeon made a bewildered expression at Dojun’s words, but after hearing Dojun’s explanation, Taeyeon held Dojun’s hand tightly.
“Ha, I’m just going to throw it away.”
“What are you covering?”
“There’s something my dad always says. You don’t have to know that. Oppa, let’s talk about what happened at the budaejjigae restaurant.”
At the budaejjigae restaurant that Taeyeon had dragged him to, Dojun explained about the ‘graphics company’ he had seen in his past life.
“Can you do this?”
“Can you do it? What do you think I am? I’m Taeyeon Oh. I’ll show you what I can do.”
Less than a week later, Taeyeon signed contracts with some of the country’s leading entertainment companies.
Dojun watched Taeyeon grow with proud eyes.
‘I’m sure the chairman will be satisfied with this?’
Do-jun’s thoughts were right. Chairman Oh Geon-ju called him personally to express his gratitude and make a promise to meet him.
My heart became heavy with the thought that we would finally meet.
* * *
Do-jun went to the Korean restaurant where he always met Oh Geon-ju.
As they entered the room and sat down, Oh Geon-ju poured alcohol into Do-jun’s glass and spoke.
“As expected from CEO Hwang. No matter how difficult the request is, he solves it right away. Taeyeon’s face has gotten a lot better. Of course… the dark circles? They’ve gotten bigger.”
“I only provided direction. Taeyeon was the one who took action and solved the problem.”
The atmosphere between Do-jun and Oh Geon-ju was good. But Do-jun knew that this wasn’t really good.
Oh Gun-ju avoided mentioning ‘that story’. He didn’t bring it up until the end of the meal.
‘Isn’t today the day?’
That was when Dojun thought like that.
“Okay. Now that we’re done eating, let’s talk. Do you have anything to say about our… family?”
Dojun thought for a moment and then answered.
“yes.”
Oh Geon-ju took a deep breath and asked.
“That’s… something.”
Dojun hesitated for a while and then said.
“Mr. Chairman, wasn’t there an incident where Taeyeon almost died?”
Oh Geon-ju’s eyes widened. As Oh Geon-ju swallowed dry saliva, Do-jun continued speaking.
“I got some information about it.”
