Episode 29. The Interview Press
The Interview.
The Interview is a new media outlet.
It was originally created by a person named Pyeon Seong-pyo, who was working as an editor-in-chief at a certain media company.
The media is always biased.
It had to be that way, especially politically and economically.
And the factor that ultimately made such reasons bigger was capital.
He resented the media’s ties to capital, but he knew there was no practical way to break it.
So, with the idea of creating a media outlet that was structurally impervious to capital interference, we became independent and that is how The Interview was created.
The Interview provides readers with articles focusing purely on interviews with relevant individuals.
Once a topic to be covered in an article is selected, relevant people are researched and interviews are requested.
When we get an interview, we publish it in the article without editing.
The article’s headline may include the reporter’s footnotes or the subject of the interview may be anonymous, but it fundamentally provides content for readers to see and judge.
It is a media outlet that focuses on interview articles.
This structure can leave the rest entirely up to the reader as long as the truth of the interview content is confirmed, but the writing is bound to be extremely limited.
Because of this, not only were there few incoming advertisements, but the revenue structure was also almost entirely in the form of Internet banners, so there was no support from large corporations.
But I was quite satisfied with the program schedule.
It’s a problem I’ve always been concerned about.
How can we provide readers with only objective information?
The bottom line is that it can’t be.
His conclusion was that no information can be conveyed objectively from an outside perspective.
Ultimately, the judgment of any incident is left to the individual’s subjective judgment, and he has decided to present only the information that can be used to make that judgment.
Of course, it is unfortunate that it was impossible to write all articles in that way.
Eventually, I was also writing in general for some common topics.
Even so, the financial situation is always poor.
“Representative!”
The employee came in out of breath.
“Why are you making such a fuss?”
The program manager, who had been concentrating for a while, looked at him and asked.
“Sarah AI CEO will be interviewing you.”
Now, there are more people who call it Sara AI than PDC.
“Oh, really? That’s good.”
Is the mysterious PDC leader finally going public?
It had been quite some time since I had requested an interview, but it didn’t really matter.
For him, it was more important right now to schedule individual interviews with his press agency.
“I think I might need to adjust my schedule a bit.”
“That’s right. Let’s just make sure to go along with it.”
You might think that the CEO would accommodate the interview schedule, but since it is a small media outlet, there were no cases where work was restricted by position.
In some cases, the representative himself goes out for the interview.
This is especially true for media outlets that focus on interviews when writing articles.
“They said the faster the better.”
“Oh, really? Are all your press interviews finished?”
What might be surprising to him is that, no matter how well-received the interview is among readers, it is still a minor media outlet.
Naturally, I couldn’t help but think that the schedules with major media outlets would be scheduled first.
“Well? No companies have posted related articles yet.”
“Really? It’s strange that everyone is so obsessed with getting exclusive coverage.”
Could it be that we are the first?
There is no issue as hot in the IT industry these days as AI.
This means that they are prey not only on domestic but also overseas major media outlets.
If there was an interview, there must be no news yet.
“Well, wouldn’t that be a good thing for us?”
The program table nodded.
“Then tell him that I have time tomorrow morning, so let’s meet up then.”
“Oh, are you going to do it yourself?”
“That’s what I was going to do.”
Matching the level is also a good way to gauge the other person’s mood.
* * *
The next morning.
Cheon Jeong-woo came to the interview office.
Jungwoo greeted me with a cheerful smile while looking at the program schedule.
“hello.”
“Hello. This is the representative program schedule for The Interview.”
To Jeong-woo, the image on the program schedule was of a person who gave an unexpectedly sad impression.
“Oh, yes. My name is Cheon Jeong-woo.”
“Haha. It’s Representative Chun. I already know him since he’s so famous.”
The program schedule started to put Jungwoo first.
“I didn’t know that the CEO would personally interview me.”
Actually, I found out.
“You took the time out of your busy schedule to do this interview, so I should come in person.”
The interview started in a fairly friendly atmosphere.
The program leader briefly glanced over the prepared materials, then quickly went straight into asking questions.
“Then, I think we can write a brief self-introduction first… .”
What is a self-introduction? It’s all about the experiences I’ve had when writing my resume in the past.
“Oh, can I not use it?”
“Haha. The introduction part should be brief and only one or two lines. If you want, you can write it yourself.”
“No. I like it better. That’s fortunate.”
“Haha, is that so? Then first of all, my first question is. What prompted you to start your own business?”
It was a warm question.
This is material that would be good to publish in a college newspaper.
“Well… Well, my father also had a business. But after he passed away in an unexpected accident, something suddenly occurred to me. I think that was the trigger.”
The question that was supposed to start off lightly suddenly turned into a Korean-style melodrama.
Representative Pyeon offered words of comfort, looking slightly embarrassed.
“I see that you had such a reason. Although it is late, I offer my condolences.”
“It’s okay. It’s been about 10 years, so it’s a long time ago.”
Representative Pyeon came to his senses and looked at the next question.
“Then this time, it might be a bit of a sensitive question. If you wish, I will not include it in this part.
“It’s okay. Go ahead.”
“The question is whether there are any solutions to the recent controversial threat to jobs posed by AI.”
The program manager asked while secretly watching Jeong-woo’s expression.
Naturally, Jungwoo’s expression didn’t look that good either.
At the time this question was prepared, these issues were of course being discussed, but the overall atmosphere toward the technology called Sarah AI was still good.
As the head of the program schedule, I am even more flustered by the recent sudden reversal in public opinion.
But I also thought this was a very important question, so I wanted to ask about your intentions.
“…Shall we move on to the next question?”
“No, no. I always thought it was an important question.”
Then, could it be that the expression that seemed unpleasant was actually a serious expression?
“Oh, I see.”
“I would like to say that I had been thinking about that part even before I created AI. However, I didn’t think about it that deeply.”
“Oh, then do you have any special solution?”
Representative Pyeon’s expression showed a slightly expectant look.
“Hmm… Well, not really, but if you really want to talk about the current policy, what about the pricing policy?”
“I think you’re talking about the Enterprise pricing tier.”
“That’s right. Of course, that won’t be enough. But I’ll tell you that it’s okay.”
“What does that mean?”
In response to Representative Pyeon’s question, Jeong-woo paused for a beat and then began to answer.
“I can’t tell you the details right now, but there will be a bigger change in the future. I can say for sure that it will be a change that is incomparable to AI. I’ve been preparing for this Sarah AI for about 10 years. And it was actually completed 5 years ago. And I’ve been refining it for the remaining 5 years and preparing for a bigger future.”
The thought, ‘This is a scoop,’ crossed Representative Pyeon’s mind.
“That’s… really amazing. There were many reactions that Sarah AI would open the golden age of AI. Is it an even bigger change than that?”
“It’s a bigger and more amazing change. So you don’t have to worry about AI. You just have to prepare for a bigger change.”
“So what you’re saying is… that bigger change is one that benefits all of our society?”
Jeongwoo nodded without answering.
I was curious about the program schedule, but didn’t bother asking.
If I could have told you this now, I would have told you a long time ago.
“Okay… Then let’s move on to the next question. This one might be a bit sensitive. If things continue this way, many people see the listing of PDC as a foregone conclusion. I expect there are a lot of people who are looking forward to it. Are there any plans for the listing?”
Jeongwoo made an embarrassed expression.
“That’s a bit of a shame.”
“Oh, so should I consider it as if there is no plan to list it at all?”
“Yes, that’s right.”
“May I ask why?”
This time too, Jeong-woo hesitated a bit and hesitated to answer.
“We are planning to move overseas.”
Moving overseas?
The program schedule surprised me in a different way this time.
“Huh! Overseas relocation? That might be… a bit… no, quite controversial. By any chance, which country is…?”
“It’s too early to tell you about that part. However, I agree that there will be controversy. However, since this part is also related to the big changes that are coming, I would appreciate it if you would consider it as part of that process.”
“Ah… I understand. Then I won’t ask you any more questions about that part. Then next time… .”
The subsequent questions proceeded smoothly without any sensitive topics.
After Jungwoo’s interview, the article spread quickly.
A response that was even featured in headlines overseas.
There are concerns about job losses and negative public opinion overseas, but the majority are positive about the amazing AI technology.
Since it was predicted that there would be more enormous changes, the reaction was bound to be heated.
As the response from overseas became very anticipated, an uproar broke out in Korea as well.
This is what a proud Korean company has shown to the world.
This is the so-called nationalism.
The problem was overseas relocation.
Naturally, the reaction to it was not bad overseas, but the backlash was strong only in South Korea.
So, it looks like the nationalism that was trying to come out is going back in.
Those who admire nationalism believe that Representative Chun is preparing for something bigger and has already explained it in advance, so we should just wait and see.
And those who oppose it naturally change their nationality, and their stance is that there is no reason for it.
And this reaction was, in a way, exactly what Jeong-woo wanted.
Previously formed public opinion had disappeared, and only curiosity about the great change that Jeong-woo had predicted had been focused on.
